Threshold TauDEM and NHDPlus HR on the Peace River
The Peace River basin in Florida, about 6,000 km², built two ways. From NHDPlus HR, the SWAT+ model has 162 subbasins and 326 water bodies wired in as reservoirs. Threshold TauDEM builds its network from the elevation grid instead: with the platform's own thresholds it gives 33 subbasins, covering 96 percent of the NHDPlus HR model's area. Wiring in the water bodies is a separate step after that; we ran it with four settings, and at those thresholds every run stopped in the same step, at a water body that touches no channel. SWATGenX builds every model from NHDPlus HR.

The Peace River basin in Florida: six thousand square kilometers.
Built from NHDPlus HR, its SWAT+ model has one hundred sixty-two subbasins and three hundred twenty-six water bodies wired in as reservoirs.
Threshold TauDEM builds its network from the elevation grid instead. With the platform's own thresholds it gives thirty-three subbasins, covering ninety-six percent of the NHDPlus HR model's area.
Wiring in the water bodies is a separate step after that. We ran it with four settings; at those thresholds, every run stopped in the same step, at a water body that touches no channel.
The TauDEM model on the right has no water bodies wired in.
SWATGenX builds every model from NHDPlus HR: the mapped network and its water bodies come with the data.
