Order a model
How to select a watershed and submit a SWAT+ build.
Every model starts from a location on the map. You can anchor a model on a USGS gage (so it lines up with an observed streamflow record), on a HUC12 outlet, or on a whole HUC8 basin.
Select the watershed
- In the Watershed Explorer, pick your outlet: search a station number, or click a gage, HUC12 outlet, or HUC8 on the map.
- The side panel shows the watershed context and the datasets that will go into the model.
- Choose the model type: SWAT+ only, or coupled SWAT+MODFLOW-6 if you have extended access and the basin is eligible.
- With extended access you can also go one level deeper: after selecting a HUC12 outlet, "Refine to HUC14 catchments" lets you compose a small site-scale model (30 m) from individual catchments — down to a single HUC14.
Submit the build
- Click "Create SWAT+ model" and review the confirmation.
- Confirm to send it to the build queue. The job runs in the cloud — you do not need to keep the tab open.
- You will receive an email when it finishes, and the build appears on your dashboard throughout.
NHDPlus HR hydrography is dense, so a watershed that looks small can produce a large model. Free accounts are capped at 15 contributing HUC12 subbasins to keep builds fast; request extended access for larger basins.
